On our first trip to Mozambique we were given the use of 3 layer houses that belonged to the veterinarian college. After a lot of work and fundraising, we have refurbished 2 of the houses. They were in bad repair but were fundamentally sound and are working well.

We have strengthened our management, and now have the volunteer help of a Swaziland poultry man with excellent experience who will better train key employees. We and the women in the co-op plan to use profits to help with women’s causes.

There are 3,000 chickens on the floor in the second house which is cheaper than cages.

There are 6,000 chickens in cages in the first house.  The eggs are better than others available in the area.

ORPHANAGE - We were able to give 5,000 eggs to a Mother Theresa Orphanage in Maputo.  At our little ceremony the Governor (in suit) said, “ I knew about this project from the beginning, but I didn’t think it would work.  So many projects fail.”  Our ranch manager, Faustina is holding the eggs, with David next to her.  Women in the neighborhood are able to bring their children to the orphanage for one bowl of corn mush a day - which is the staple of their diet.
