HOW WE GOT STARTED

THE BEGINNING - In the Spring of 2006 we were called by the LDS Church to be short-term agricultural specialists. We were asked to go to Uganda and Mozambique to look for projects that could help feed the people. We were also asked to review a garden project in Zimbabwe. We found some excellent projects in both Uganda and Mozambique, and we were especially excited about an egg-layer project in Mozambique because that is one of David’s areas of expertise. When we were leaving one village, a woman said to me, “Many churches come and say they will help, but they never come back.” This comment was certainly on our minds when we learned that the LDS Church was not going to go forward with any projects at that time. We decided we must try to help on our own. We were able to raise enough money to refurbish one chicken house and purchase 6,000 hens. (We have now completed the second house) We have also started a uniform project.
JOSEPH SMITH said, “We are to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other or in no church at all, wherever we find them...”
