SCHOOL UNIFORMS
SCHOOL UNIFORMS
We are making and distributing 50-75 uniforms each month
We were able to hire a wonderful woman in Mozambique to be the head seamstress
and manager of our school uniform project. Her name is Lizy Muscavel and she is
honest, smart, talented, and very interested in helping girls. She has had a very
difficult life. She lost 2 babies, and then gave birth to a disabled son who is now 10 and needs a great deal of care. Her husband was killed in an auto-pedestrian accident about one month after we hired her to be our manager. She not only sews and trains other seamstresses, she visits schools and even homes to find the most needy girls.
Lizy and students in new uniforms
When we raise enough money, we plan to build a sewing center where we can train women and girls to sew and make uniforms. It will be similar to the house on the left made from mud blocks. It will cost about between $4,000-$6,000. We currently need $1,000 a month to fund our program of 50-75 uniforms and some supplies.
SPECIAL NEEDS - The girl on the left with albinism asked us to buy glasses for her - the sun had burned her eyes so that she had poor vision. The girl in front of the picture on the right asked me if I had enough money to buy her some juice. She hadn’t eaten for 2 days. She is 13 and lives with her 15-year-old sister who “sometimes works at night” to support them. Thousands of children are AIDS orphans and live with grandparents, siblings, or by themselves.
